Gomez Ruiz et. al v. ICE

On November 12, 2026, seven people detained by ICE at the California City Detention Center, operated by the private prison company CoreCivic, sued the Trump administration over inhumane conditions at the facility. The case is known as Gomez Ruiz, et. al v. ICE. They are represented by the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice, the ACLU's National Prison Project, Keker, Van Nest & Peters, and Prison Law Office. View our joint press release is here.

The complaint highlights punishing conditions (including dirty housing units, inadequate food and water, very cold temperatures, and restrictions on family visits), enforced isolation caused by frequent lockdowns, excessive solitary confinement, inadequate medical care that deprives people of critical treatment for life-threatening conditions, neglect of people with disabilities, encroachment on freedom of religion, and denial of access to counsel, among other things.
