Legal settlement with Cal/OSHA caps a four-year fight that secured critical protections for people who work while detained in ICE detention centers operated by GEO Group.

Hundreds of immigrants detained at two Central Valley Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers have declared a commissary boycott for the month of July to protest exorbitant prices for basic goods like food and hygiene products.

On 4/27/26, immigrant justice groups held a press conference in front of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and demanded an end to all collaboration between the Sheriff and federal immigration authorities. The sister of a 23-year old man identified by the pseudonym “Carlos” spoke during the press conference via telephone while on her way to visit her brother at the California City ICE Detention Center, nearly 400 miles away.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution to formally oppose the reopening or repurposing of the Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin for any future detention or correctional operations.
