Complaint to DHS Inspector General and Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Division in response to the death of Mr. Choung Woong Ahn

California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice,  Disability Rights California, and Centro Legal de la Raza, filed a complaint today in response to the death of Mr. Choung Woong Ahn, who died in solitary confinement at Mesa Verde, an ICE detention facility operated by the private, for-profit GEO Group.

ICE and GEO repeatedly violated federal disability law, Mr. Ahn’s constitutional rights, and binding detention standards throughout his time at Mesa Verde.

CCIJ and its partners filed the complaint with the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General and Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Division. You can read a copy of the complaint below.

We also call upon the California Attorney General’s office to investigate GEO’s violations. California should investigate and hold GEO Group accountable, and to end the practice of transferring individuals to ICE custody.  You can read a copy of our letter to the Attorney General here.
