ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH AB3228

ab3228.png

AB 3228 is a bill that provides accountability for health and safety in all private detention facilities in the state of California by regulating the conduct of private detention operators.

AB3228 was introduced by Assemblymember Rob Bonta, sponsored by Immigrant Defense Advocates (IDA) and supported by CCIJ.

Were you harmed in detention and want to sue?

This bill:

  • Ensures that all detention facility operators in the state of California adhere to the minimum detention standards agreed upon in the contract for the facility.

  • Provides for a cause of action in court for any violations of the agreed upon standards, meaning that individuals that were harmed due to the violations of detention standards have the right to sue.

  • Ensures that detention facilities must abide by and uphold basic human rights and standards in the treatment of civil detainees.
