Immigrant rights and labor advocates hold action outside Golden State Annex and Mesa Verde to demand humane treatment as the labor strike inside these detention centers approaches the 6 month mark.

Action follows federal complaint filed by labor strikers due to retaliation.

What: At least 40 immigrant rights and labor advocates, as well as previously detained immigrants will gather outside of Golden State Annex and Mesa Verde ICE Processing Center on Sunday October 16, 2022, in support of detained immigrants who have been on labor strike for over four months. Labor strikers will be connecting to the action via phone. Detained immigrant workers are protesting mistreatment, poor living conditions and unjust labor practices. In September 2022, nine labor strikers filed a Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) complaint with the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman, urging the departments to investigate retaliation and other abuses committed by ICE and the GEO Group. The actions on Sunday seek to bring attention to the complaint and will include art performances, testimonies from currently and formerly detained individuals and calls to action for the community.

When: Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 12:00pm outside of Golden State Annex (GSA) and 1:30pm outside of Mesa Verde ICE Processing Center.

Where:

Golden State Annex: 611 Frontage Rd, McFarland, CA 93250

Mesa Verde Detention Facility: 425 Golden State Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93301
